JOHN JOSEPH McDERMOTT, JR., 65, passed away at Valley
Baptist Medical Center, Rancho Viejo, TX on March 15,
2007, with interment at Plain Dealing Cemetery in Plain
Dealing, LA.
He was born on Aug. 13, 1941 in Freeport, Long Island,
NY. After graduating from Catholic Central High School,
he served in the United States Air Force. Upon completing
duty he moved to Shreveport, Louisiana where he met and
married Janet Cox. He was employed as an engineer with
Western Electric, AT&T Shreveport Works, AT&T Taiwan
Telecommunications, AT&T Dallas, and was retired from
Lucent Technologies in Matamoros, Mexico in 2000. He was
a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus. After
retirement he enjoyed being a docent at the Brownsville
Zoo. He was also a member of the Small Model Aircraft
Society of Harlingen and a member of the Rancho Viejo
Volunteer Fire Department. He also enjoyed fishing,
woodworking, and stained glass creation.
He is preceded in death by, his parents, John Joseph
McDermott Sr. and Loretta Brickley McDermott.
At the time of his death, he was survived by his wife of
38 years, Janet Cox McDermott of Rancho Viejo, TX; his son,
John Shannon McDermott and his wife Melanie of Springfield,
MO; his daughter Mary Elizabeth McDermott McCutchan and her
husband Scott of Ocala, FL; two grandchildren, Grant Bolton
McCutchan, and Molly Elizabeth McCutchan of Ocala, FL. and
future grandson, Harrison Sidney McDermott of Springfield,
MO; and his sister, Janet McDermott of Troy, NY.
