JERRY F. CORNISH passed away Aug. 1, 2010 at the age of 70,
with burial at Mustang Cemetery in OKC.
Jerry was born in Amber, OK Feb. 7, 1940 to Homer and Jeanette
Cornish. He married Elaine Cornish in June of 1963 at Southwest
Church of Christ. They spent most of their married life in OKC,
but moved the family to Garland, TX in the late 70's & early 80's.
Jerry worked for Western Electric/Lucent Technologies for over 30
years. Jerry was a very active member at the S.W. Church of Christ
where he was a faithful servant for most of his 70 years. He loved
spending the week at camp with the kids every year where he would
work cooking from 5AM til 11PM each day. He also delivered meals
on wheels each week & helped teach a Sunday morning Bible class.
Jerry's favorite project was a day called "Tipton Fun Day". Each
year on the first Saturday in August he would organize a carnival
style day for the kids who lived at the children's home in Tipton,
OK. He spent all year raising money & organizing the games and
gifts for the kids and made sure they had a day where they could
just have "fun". Jerry's pride & joy were his 3 grandsons. They
were first priority with him. No plans could be made if they had
any sport or school activity scheduled. Anyone who knew him knew
that those boys worshiped the ground he walked on. He will be so
dearly missed.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; wife Elaine; & sister
Gracie Mayhugh,
He is survived by one brother Homer (Bud) Cornish of Broken Arrow,
OK; son Jay Cornish & wife Traci of Yukon, OK; daughter Tracy &
husband Glenn of OKC; 3 grandsons Garrett Cornish, Alex McDaniel
& Dylan McDaniel.
