LEROY MOORE, 82, died on June 2, 2014 in Tulsa, OK.
Leroy Moore was born December 12, 1931 to Mary Annie
Peacock Moore and James Arto Moore in Healdton, OK.
Between these dates, Leroy lived a life defined by his
commitment to his country, service to his community,
and laughter. His life story includes tales of athletic
prowess, mischief and laughter, devotion to his family,
doing for others, professional success as an industrial
engineer, loving support for his daughter and extended
family, and finding true love late in life. In the end,
he faced cancer as he had lived: with humor, courage,
and prioritizing care for others before himself.
Leroy enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1951. He
served 4 years, during the Korean Conflict, stationed
at Altus Air Force Base, OK. After his discharge in
1954, Leroy enrolled at Oklahoma Agricultural and
Mechanical College. He graduated in the last OAMC
class before the institution became Oklahoma State
University in 1957, and then later earned another
degree in mathematics from Oklahoma City University
in 1971.
In 1957, Leroy left Stillwater for Fort Wayne, IN and
a job at International Harvester where he designed parts
for trucks. By 1959, he'd returned to Oklahoma, taking
a position as a draftsman with Western Electric in OK
City. He worked for Western Electric, and AT&T, for 35
years, in Oklahoma City, Dallas, and Burlington, North
Carolina, before retiring from the company in 1992.
Leroy married Sue James in 1960; they adopted Tami in
1965, and divorced in 1987. He met and married Enyd Hulse
Moore, the woman he described as "the love of his life,"
in 2011.
At the time of his death, Leroy was survived by his wife
Enyd, and daughter Tami Moore of Tulsa; nephews Dan Moratto,
Michael Moratto, and Russell Doty; nieces Beverly Litchum,
Lynn Matsler, and Cynthia Haldeman, and their families.
