NANCY LEE HORSLEY PATE, 72, passed into her
glorious eternal life with the Lord on Sept. 9,
2022, after a hard-fought battle with Alzheimer’s.
Burial was at Laurel Oaks Memorial Park in
Mesquite, TX.
She was born in Dallas, TX on April 3, 1950, to
parents, John Otis Horsley and Flora Eileen
Throgmorton Horsley. In her early life, Nancy
attended W.W. Samuell High, where her high school
career was cut short due to the death and long-
term illness of her parents. She dedicated her
young adult life to diligently care for her
invalid mother, Flora, while working to provide
for her care.
Nancy was a multi-talented hard working wife,
mother, artist and innovator. Before retirement,
she worked for 29 years as a production specialist,
turned Manager, at AT&T/Lucent Technologies, where
she was often recognized and rewarded for her
innovative ideas. After leaving Lucent, she went
on to work as an inventory specialist at Odessa
Dallas Auto Auction for many years, while also
running a side-business as an Avon Specialist.
During this time, Nancy met and married the love
of her life, Calvin Pate, where they raised two
daughters, Aletha “Allie” Nanette and Malinde
“Minde” Michelle, while also suffering the loss
of an infant son, Justin Matthew. They have all
accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior
and attended First Baptist Church in Mesquite,
where she and husband Calvin lived happily for
the 48 years of their loving and committed
marriage. Nancy dedicated her life to the Lord,
and did her best to live in his image. She was
kind and compassionate, helping others wherever
she could and witnessing to anyone who would
listen. She would give the shirt off of her
back if it meant lifting up another person,
while giving all the glory to God.
Nancy is preceded in death by her parents, Otis
& Flora Horsley, infant son Justin Pate and
brother-in-law Michael Pyle.
She is survived by husband, Calvin A. Pate of
Savannah, TX; children: daughter Allie Martinez
and husband Gabriel, grandchildren, Kristen and
Grant Martinez of Royse City, TX, and daughter
Minde Mullinax, husband Rob, and grandchildren
Deuce and Aspen Mullinax of Savannah, TX; by
sister Carol L. Pyle of Weatherford, and half-
sister, Martha Garland Treckman of Murrieta,
CA; as well as many cousins, nieces and other
family and friends; and by her beloved dog,
Shorty.
