Bettie Flores BETTIE LORRAINE WRIGHT FLORES, 77, passed away peacefully at her home in Balch Springs, TX on April 30, 2023, with burial in New Hope Memorial Gardens. She was born on Feb. 7, 1946 to Walter & Inez Wright in Mobile, AL and was loved by all who knew her. At a young age, Bettie’s family moved to Port Arthur, TX where she graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School. After graduating, she moved to New Orleans with her grandmother. She later made her way back to Texas and resided in several locations throughout the years including Calvert, Dallas, Houston, Hearne, Grand Prairie, and finally Balch Springs. Bettie was known as a hard worker and was proud of her first big job working for NASA in Houston. Later she worked 30 plus years at Lucent Technologies in Mesquite where she made many life-long friends. After retiring from Lucent, she began volunteering then working for Discovery Garden at Fair Park in Dallas. Bettie enjoyed working outside whether it was gardening or mowing. She also got a lot of joy from cooking and baking, especially if it was for others. Friends, family, and neighbors were often gifted with cakes or pies for no reason other than Bettie’s generous and giving nature. Her children remember the lessons in manners like saying “yes ma’am”, “no ma’am”, and “thank you”. She was strict when it can to teaching her children how to behave. Not a day went by that her children didn’t know that she loved them; everyone was her favorite. If you were her friend, you became family. She loved going out to eat with friends. Bettie always saw the good in everyone. Her fiery, friendly, passionate and sassy personality drew people to her; she never met a stranger. Bettie’s love for her family can be described as the story of who she was and a collection of all the things she loved.
